People who physically make objects understand that the making is only one aspect of creating culture: we need admirers and friends who are knowledgeable and thoughtful in their reception of our work, and who champion its grand diversity. This award is specifically for someone who is not a professional craft artist, but without whom the craft community would be sorely diminished. This year CCBC invites all regional & community arts councils, craft organizations and artists to nominate an individual that has made a significant impact in their community for craft and the artists who create it. The award winner will receive a one-of-a-kind work of craft which will be presented at the CCBC AGM TBA in Vancouver. CCBC will provide transportation and accommodation as needed.
The Micki MacKenzie Educational Craft Bursary was founded in 2019 as a living memorial to a wonderful woman who possessed an incredible eye for design, craft and the arts of all kinds. This bursary is awarded to assist the recipient in their pursuit of a career in the field of craft and to help promote the development of excellence in crafts in British Columbia. Applications must be submitted by June 30, 2025. Visit the Craft Council of BC’s website for information on how to apply.
On Saturday, June 14 2025, Granville Island will operate as Boat for Hope’s principal mid‑route hub, greeting a flotilla of more than 400 children with complex health needs as their pirate boats sail past. A live MC keeps the storyline moving, volunteers at a themed activity station hand out “treasure,” and the event’s showcase raffle package is on display for the public. This stop connects several False Creek checkpoints, giving island guests a joyful glimpse of carefree kids while adding festival‑style energy to the waterfront. Proceeds and awareness generated here help Variety – The Children’s Charity fund vital equipment, therapies and support services for B.C. families year‑round.
The Craft Council of BC is pleased to present The Earring Show, an annual exhibition that highlights contemporary jewellery design. The exhibition sheds light on the timeless connection between craft and culture, and how they influence each other. The Earring Show serves as a unique space that presents earrings as art, culture and a snapshot of contemporary high-level craftsmanship. The exhibition recognizes the importance of earrings throughout history in their various roles, from adornment and status markers, to protest and cultural statements.
